As part of the Salem School District's Strategic Plan, a non-profit corporation was established under the IRS rules as a 501 c-3 corporation in 1995. One of the main purposes was to create a vehicle to accept grants, funding, bequests, and donations as a non-profit agency affiliated with the Salem School District.
There are several goals in the by-laws of the Corporation;
* Support an environment to improve learning
* Operate/maintain facilities to serve the entire community
* Create a forum for business/higher education partnerships
* Ensure a quality learning community for the 21st century
As such, the corporation has received donations of equipment for use in the district's schools, and has received some funding for special projects. Currently, the majority of funds held by the corporation are targeted to support scholarships for Salem students to participate in math or science enrichment activities.
