Grade 2 Perseverance Stories

William
T. Barron Elementary School has chosen a heroes theme for this school year in
order to help students define heroes and heroism, understand the role of heroes
in our lives, learn to choose positive role models as heroes, and recognize
that they themselves can perform ”heroic” actions in their daily lives.
Students
are studying heroes from all cultures, all walks of life and all eras;
understand their impact; and recognize that anyone can possess and put into
practice the qualities and characteristics that constitute heroism. Additionally, students have learned that
being a hero doesn’t mean being perfect and heroism does not necessarily
include dangerous acts.
Certain
heroes have been chosen for each month and their characteristics have been
studied. Guest speakers, hero
presentations, parent newsletters with hero information and student projects
have been the highlights of this school venture.
William
T. Barron School would like to acknowledge the State Farm Insurance Company
along with Apple Computer Inc. for providing them with the Heroes for
Life materials and Apple Genius posters.
