MISSION STATEMENT
 
The mission of the Salem Youth Committee is to provide support and resources for the continued healthy development of the youth of Salem, by initiating the necessary activities and providing programs that lead to increased self-esteem and successful decision-making among youth.
        
GOALS
 
1.       Support And Develop Initiatives For Prevention Of High-Risk Behaviors
•      Approach through school, home and community interventions
•      Reduce rates of high-risk behaviors: substance use and sexual activity
•      Increase parent and community involvement
 
2.       Promote And Support Programs To Foster Development Of Healthy Life Aspirations
•      Increase youth self-esteem
•      Increase positive peer interactions
•      Increase opportunities for youth to participate in proactive, healthy, alternative activities toward betterment of their community
•      Increase youth participation in such activities
 
3.       Promote Initiatives For The Prevention Of Bullying
•      Increase awareness of bullying and other violence problems
•      Reduce rates of bullying and other violence problems across community
•      Increase use of successful interventions to deal with bullying and other violence problems by youth, parents, teachers, and community at-large
 
4.        Increase Community Awareness And Participation In SYC Activities
•      Dissemination of SYC activities through local businesses and media
•      Recruitment of new members
•      Maintenance of broad-based community membership
•      Corporate sponsorship of SYC programs
