Troubleshooting

There are 2 User Names and Passwords for each machine in the district:

1.      Server login when you turn on your machine

2.      SSD webmail login

SSD webmail login is the same on any machine (school or home) – User Name – Your first initial and last name, no spaces, no capitals.  Password – greenbean is used originally but you can change it to a personal password by clicking the Options button.  If you have forgotten your webmail password, please call Pat at the IT Department. She will change it back to greenbean.

You don't see the server login window - Check for a loose or unplugged blue or gray cable.  Restart the machine after you plug in the cable.

My Password is not working – Check for errors in your User Name and Password. Retype your username and password.  Also, passwords are case sensitive –

usually lower case.

No Internet connection – No network connection.

1.      If you can go to other sites, the page you are trying to reach might be down.

2.   Check to see if gray or blue network cable is loose.

3.   If your cables are connected, check to see if others in your building are also having the same difficulty.  If so, the network may be down,

contact the Department of Information Technology (078).

Computer not working -

1.      Restart computer - Some software problems will correct themselves.

2.      Check Cables - Make sure everything is plugged in and tight.

3.      Check power strip to make sure it is on.

4.      Make sure the monitor is connected to the computer.

5.      Disconnect peripheral devices, such as printers and scanners, and restart the computer.

6.      Listen for unusual sounds - Is the fan running? Is the hard drive making noise?  Talk to your mentor.

Printer not printing properly –

1.  Ink cartridge or Laser toner may need replacement.

2.      Turn the printer off and check to see if there is a paper jam.

Error message - "Insert system disc and press any key to continue" –

Remove floppy disk from the floppy drive and press any key.  If there is no floppy in the drive, talk to your mentor.

Computer is not responding (frozen) - Press Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys at the same time, click End Task button and restart the computer.  If this doesn’t work,
